Brits Powers South Africa Past New Zealand in T20 Thriller

South Africa Women seized control from the powerplay and held nerve in the death overs to beat New Zealand by 18 runs at a packed basin in Christchurch. Tazmin Brits anchored the innings with a controlled 53 off 43, while Laura Wolvaardt punched 41 off 33 as South Africa built to 177/5. The tourists found boundaries in clusters during overs 14–18, when New Zealand's bowling tightened but couldn't stem the flow.

New Zealand's chase stuttered from ball one. They lost quick wickets in the powerplay and never recovered the aggression needed against South Africa's death bowling. Amelia Kerr flickered briefly with 32 off 18 — a cameo that threatened to derail South Africa's celebration — but lacked support around her. Izzy Sharp's 29 off 21 showed application without the firepower required. South Africa's pace attack, particularly Annerie Dercksen's miserly 1/11, squeezed New Zealand in the middle overs when the hosts needed momentum.

The decisive moment came in overs 15–17 of South Africa's innings, when Brits and Wolvaardt punished loose lengths to accelerate from 131/3 to 170 with five balls unused. New Zealand's bowlers couldn't adapt quickly enough. In reply, New Zealand fell short by 18, their batting depth exposed against a disciplined South African unit that refused to panic.
