Rohit Overtakes Dhoni for Most IPL Sixes Against One Team

A single swat over the ropes was all it took. Rohit Sharma's six against Delhi Capitals on Saturday night pushed him past MS Dhoni to become the Indian batter with the most sixes against one team in IPL history — 51 maximums against DC, eclipsing Dhoni's 50 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. It came during a relatively quiet knock of 35, but records don't care about the size of the innings.

Rohit's long-standing love affair with dispatching Delhi bowlers into the stands now has a statistical crown to show for it. Chris Gayle still holds the overall IPL record for sixes against a single opponent, but among Indian batters, Rohit sits alone at the top. Virat Kohli and Dhoni trail behind him on that particular leaderboard. The MI skipper also crept within 11 runs of 6,000 IPL runs for Mumbai Indians, a landmark that now feels like a matter of when, not if.

The milestone, though, was a footnote in a match Mumbai would rather forget. They posted a below-par 162/6, with Suryakumar Yadav and Naman Dhir chipping in but no one truly seizing control. Mukesh Kumar's two early wickets gave Delhi a brief wobble, but Pathum Nissanka's zippy 44 and a stunning 90 off 51 balls from Sameer Rizvi — seven sixes included — blew the chase wide open. Delhi cantered home by six wickets.

Even on nights when his bat doesn't do the bulk of the talking, Rohit finds a way to etch his name into the record books. That's been his trick for nearly two decades in the IPL. The big scores get the headlines, but the quiet milestones tell the fuller story of his dominance in this league.
